We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Year 6 Teacher to join our team from April 2025 for a one-year maternity cover contract.
Role Overview
As a Year 6 Teacher, you will play a crucial role in preparing pupils for their SATs and transition to secondary school. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and ensuring that every child achieves academic success while developing confidence and resilience.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning
- Plan and deliver engaging, well-structured lessons aligned with the Year 6 curriculum.
- Create a positive and stimulating classroom environment that supports all learners.
- Use a range of teaching strategies to cater to different learning styles and abilities.
- Support pupils in developing strong literacy and numeracy skills in preparation for SATs.
Pupil Progress & Assessment
- Monitor and track pupil progress, using assessment data to inform lesson planning.
- Provide targeted support and interventions for pupils needing additional help.
- Prepare and mark assessments, ensuring pupils are well-prepared for their SATs.
- Provide regular feedback to pupils, parents, and school leadership.
Classroom & Behaviour Management
- Establish clear expectations for behaviour and create a respectful learning environment.
- Implement school behaviour policies effectively to foster a culture of respect and responsibility.
- Encourage pupils to take ownership of their learning and develop resilience.
Collaboration & Professional Development
- Work closely with the Year 6 teaching team and leadership to ensure consistency in curriculum delivery.
- Participate in staff meetings, CPD sessions, and training opportunities.
- Engage with parents and carers to build strong home-school partnerships.
School Contribution
- Take part in school trips, extracurricular activities, and enrichment opportunities for Year 6 pupils.
- Contribute to the wider school community, supporting whole-school initiatives.
- Uphold the school’s values and ethos, acting as a positive role model for pupils.
Candidate Requirements
Essential:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
- Experience teaching in Key Stage 2, particularly in Year 6.
- Strong knowledge of the National Curriculum and SATs preparation.
- Excellent classroom management and communication skills.
- A commitment to fostering a love of learning and high aspirations for all pupils.
Desirable:
- Previous experience in a maternity cover or fixed-term teaching role.
- Experience implementing targeted interventions for SATs preparation.
- Familiarity with SEND and EAL teaching strategies.
- Ability to contribute to extracurricular activities and school initiatives.
