Senior Accounts Assistant
Hitchin, Hertfordshire
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 09:00 17:00 (Office Based)
Salary: £30,000 £40,000 (DOE)

We're working with a respected financial services firm in Hitchin that provides tailored accounting and bookkeeping solutions to a wide and loyal client base. Known for their accuracy, integrity, and long-standing client relationships, they are now looking to add a Senior Accounts Assistant to their growing team.
This role is ideally suited to someone with hands-on experience in an accountancy practice who thrives in a busy, client-facing environment and is confident managing multiple sets of books across a range of sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing day-to-day bookkeeping for multiple clients across various industries.
- Preparing and submitting monthly and quarterly VAT returns.
- Assisting in the production of management accounts and financial statements.
- Performing bank reconciliations and ensuring ledger accuracy.
- Overseeing accounts payable and receivable processes.
- Acting as a key point of contact for client queries and financial support.
- Supporting month-end and year-end close processes.
- Assisting with payroll and statutory submissions as needed.
- Ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal policies.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in a similar role within a practice environment.
- Strong grasp of bookkeeping principles and double-entry accounting.
- Proficiency in accounting software: Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, and strong Excel skills.
- AAT qualified, or part-qualified ACCA/ACA (or equivalent experience)
- High attention to detail and excellent time management.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the confidence to liaise directly with clients.
- A proactive, organised approach and ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
